The Rest of Term 2019
Music Appreciation Classes in Bridport, Dorchester, Ringwood, and at DRMS continue from the 5th November until the end of the month. We shall be continuing to explore the richness of 19th century Romantic music.
The ‘Sing for Pleasure’ choir continues its Monday evening meetings from 4th November aiming for performances at the Civic Carol Service in the Parish Church on the 6th December and carol singing at Kingston Lacy the following week.
On 7th November DRMS will be hosting an improvisation masterclass with Tim Klipous.
Staff and students will be performing at the Mayors ‘last Night of the Proms’ concert in the Corn Exchange on Friday 15th November.
On Tuesday 19th November the Blandford Literary Festival will be holding a poetry reading at DRMS – we are delighted that our newly refurbished premises are starting to prove an attractive venue for arts events other than concerts.
For the New Year be on the lookout for our next Dorset Island Discs session with Dorchester musician Peter Oakes and a murder mystery evening with a musical twist at DRMS – and much more to come.

John Young – High Sheriff of Dorset – in conversation
We have by no means exhausted all the local musicians willing to be cast away in our Desert Island Discs series, but we are looking beyond the music desk or the organ loft to include people from other walks of life who have an interesting tale to tell and a catholic taste in music.
John Young certainly fits both these categories; his life has ranged from service in Northern Ireland in the teeth of the ‘troubles’ to work in Dorset, thirty years as a magistrate and now filling the role of High Sheriff. His musical tastes are equally wide-ranging from Peter Grimes to Danny Kaye!
