Music Appreciation
This term’s music appreciation course is entitled:

Musical Immigrants - Musical Emigrants

Over the centuries many musicians have uprooted themselves from their native environment either to further their careers or else to avoid persecution. One thinks of Handel and the many German and Italian composers who found 18th century London a favourable place to work, and of course there is the large number of Europeans who fled Germany in the face of the rise of the far right in 1930s. But as we shall discover there were many other individuals who found it expedient to make a fresh start elsewhere.

George Frederich Handel

The course will run for 5 weeks in May and 'Where and when' will follow the usual pattern:

  • St Swithun's Church, North Allington
  • Wednesday mornings
  • 10:00 - 1:45
  • Coffee and biscuits included

  • United Church, South Street (Please use the rear entrance in Charles Street)
  • Wednesday afternoons
  • 14:00 - 15:30

  • Dorset Rural Music School
  • Thursday afternoons
  • 14:15 - 15:45

The course will run over five weeks starting on 3 May and finishing on 31 May.

No half-term break!!

The cost will be £35 for the whole course (£30 for DRMS Friends) and £8.00 per session.

As always new members are welcome at any stage of the course. The three meetings each week will be dealing with the same music so if you need to change to a different venue at any stage, that poses no problem.
